The British Grand Prix 2026 is Round 9 of the FIA Formula One World Championship. The race takes place at Silverstone Circuit in Northamptonshire from Thursday 2 July to Sunday 5 July. The 2026 British Grand Prix runs from Friday 3 July to Sunday 5 July at Silverstone Circuit. Race day is Sunday 5 July. This is a Sprint weekend, so five competitive F1 sessions run across four days alongside the full junior category programme. Gates open from 06:30 each morning.

Thursday, to begin with, is activation day. F1 cars do not run, but the circuit still opens and the crowd begins to build. Friday, however, brings the only free practice session of the full weekend at 12:30 BST, followed by Sprint Qualifying at 16:30 BST the same afternoon to set Saturday’s Sprint grid. Saturday then carries the Sprint race at 12:00 BST and grand prix Qualifying at 16:00 BST. Finally, Sunday is race day at 15:00 BST.

The support programme, meanwhile, covers F1 Academy, Formula 2, and Formula 3 across all four days. F1 Academy runs a Free Practice session, Qualifying, a Feature Race, and a Reverse Grid Race. Similarly, Formula 2 and Formula 3 each run Sprint Races and Feature Races. All three series, in addition, run qualifying from Friday before their race weekends begin. Support series action, as a result, starts from 07:30 on race mornings, with feature races from 11:00 on Saturday and Sunday.

WHAT TIME DOES THE 2026 BRITISH GRAND PRIX START?

The 2026 British Grand Prix starts at 15:00 BST on Sunday 5 July. The race runs 52 laps over a total distance of 306.198 km and takes roughly 90 minutes from lights out to chequered flag. BST is UTC+1.

UK and Irish viewers, as a result, get a peak Sunday afternoon slot. Meanwhile, fans in Pakistan watch from 19:00 PKT. Indian viewers, similarly, see lights out at 19:30 IST. UAE audiences, by contrast, get an 18:00 GST start. Across Australia, fans in AEST territory reach midnight into Monday morning. US East Coast viewers, finally, get a 10:00 AM Sunday start, which sits among the more accessible F1 slots on the American schedule all season.

WHAT TIME IS SILVERSTONE F1 QUALIFYING?

Grand prix qualifying at Silverstone in 2026 runs at 16:00 BST on Saturday 4 July. This is the session that sets Sunday’s starting grid, and it runs to the standard Q1, Q2, and Q3 knockout format. Once Q3 wraps up, the driver posting the fastest lap takes pole position for the race.

Sprint Qualifying, however, runs earlier, at 16:30 BST on Friday 3 July, and uses its own SQ1, SQ2, and SQ3 format. This session only sets the grid for Saturday’s Sprint race. So the two sessions carry completely separate consequences. One decides where drivers start on Saturday morning, while the other decides where they start on Sunday afternoon.

HOW THE SPRINT WEEKEND FORMAT WORKS AT SILVERSTONE

A Sprint weekend delivers five competitive sessions across four days, rather than the three a standard race weekend provides. Free Practice 1 on Friday is the only session of the entire weekend with no result attached to it. After that, however, every session counts.

Sprint Qualifying on Friday afternoon sets the Sprint grid first. Then the Sprint race on Saturday morning covers 100 kilometres and awards points down to P8. Saturday afternoon brings grand prix Qualifying next, which sets Sunday’s full race grid. Finally, the Grand Prix on Sunday runs the full race distance and pays out the full points haul.

Silverstone last ran as a Sprint weekend back in 2021, so this is its return to the format. Since teams get one less practice session to dial the car in, setup calls have to be right faster. For fans, though, competitive action starts from the first full day of running. Nothing at a Sprint weekend is a dry run.

HOW TO WATCH THE 2026 BRITISH GRAND PRIX

UK viewers get the full weekend live on Sky Sports F1, while the Sky F1 Show previews each session beforehand. Channel 4 also broadcasts the Grand Prix live and free-to-air on Sunday 5 July, which makes this one of the most accessible races of the season for a UK audience.

ENTERTAINMENT AND CONCERTS AT THE 2026 BRITISH GRAND PRIX

The M&S Mainstage runs headline concerts each evening of the weekend. The 2026 lineup features Anne-Marie, David Guetta, Richard Ashcroft, and Chase and Status as headliners. Alongside them, James Arthur, John Newman, Rudimental, and a Pendulum DJ Set fill additional main stage slots. MK and Jazzy also feature across the weekend. Together, the programme covers pop, rock, electronic dance music, and hip-hop across all four days.

Coldplace, meanwhile, performs a full set across the weekend, while Vikkstar delivers a DJ set. Alex James Britpop Classical, by contrast, gives the programme a different register entirely. After qualifying on Saturday night, CARGO and the T1 After Party open the late-night programme. The Mahiki Lounge and The Mahiki Experience, in addition, run through the hospitality areas all weekend. A Firework Finale then closes Saturday evening. A Live World Cup Match Screening and gourmet cuisine also feature as part of the wider programme. The Silverstone Museum, finally, runs extended opening hours across all four days.

The Sunday pre-race programme, before lights out, includes a fighter jet flypast from the RAF and a display from the RAF Falcons parachute team.
